Opening Doors. Expanding Possibilities.
Hector is running to ensure every CPS student has the resources, opportunities, and support they need to learn, grow, and discover what is possible for their future.
About Hector
Hector Morales is a lifelong Chicagoan, CPS graduate, and attorney running for the Chicago Board of Education. Growing up in public housing, Hector experienced firsthand how education could expand his world and open doors to new possibilities.
As a young student, Hector struggled in school. That began to change in seventh grade, when a teacher made him a deal: if he sat quietly and read a book, she would leave him alone in class. What began as a simple agreement grew into a love of reading and learning that has stayed with him ever since. From there, Hector opened himself up to more of what CPS had to offer, including sports, the arts, and student leadership.
A first-generation college graduate, Hector earned his bachelor’s degree from Loyola University Chicago. Hector began his career with the City of Chicago, working for over a decade as a grants analyst, legislative liaison, and contract expediter. His work included overseeing public funds, developing youth development policy, and reviewing vendor contracts for regulatory compliance. While working full time for the City, he attended law school at night and earned his law degree from John Marshall Law School. In 2003, he opened his own law practice, where he has spent more than 20 years helping individuals and small businesses navigate challenging circumstances.
Hector never stopped being a student. He continues to take classes and explore subjects ranging from music and the arts to literature and Chicago history. While studying music at Northwestern University, he introduced students at Gale Elementary School to making music — a reminder that sometimes opening a door begins simply by showing a student that the door exists.
Hector is running to ensure every CPS student has the resources, opportunities, and support they need to learn, grow, and discover what is possible for their future.
The Priorities
Education should expand a student’s world. Hector believes CPS should give students a strong academic foundation while exposing them to new ideas, experiences, people, and possibilities. He would bring an empathetic, inclusive, and practical approach to the Board — listening to different perspectives, understanding the facts, and carefully navigating complicated decisions to prioritize students and their futures.
A stable budget means stable resources for students and educators. Hector will focus on responsible financial decisions so schools can count on the programs, staff, and support they rely on.
Education should open doors. Every CPS student should have access to opportunities that expand their world and help them see what is possible for their future.
Supporting students takes all of us. Students are best served when the people closest to their education have a voice in the decisions that affect them.
